Standing on the Shoulders of Giants Speaker Series
Each year, the Office sponsors a “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants”
series where individuals who have distinguished themselves as leaders and
visionaries in areas such as politics, the fine arts, business, education,
and entertainment are invited to speak on campus and receive recognition for
their accomplishments and contributions.
Past ‘Giants” include legendary Civil Rights icon, Oliver Hill Sr. (a
member of the legal defense team arguing before the Supreme Court in the
landmark case of Brown Vs the Board of Education), the Honorable Henry Marsh
(first African American Mayor of Richmond, Virginia and current Virginia
Senator), the Honorable Roger Gregory (Federal Appellate Judge appointed by
President Bill Clinton), Dr. Maury Depillars (International Visual Artist
and Educator) and Daphne Reid (Actress, Producer and Co Founder of
Millennium Studio). Students and other members of the University community
are invited to submit suggestions for Giant award recipients.
