Department Overview

Communication scholars explore the creation of social realities, the nature of verbal and nonverbal signs and symbols, mediated communication, and the role of communicative behavior in all social contexts (from marriages to business transactions to political and legal debates and beyond). Most directly, the Department of Rhetoric & Communication Studies is concerned with how and why people communicate, and with the effects of communication on individuals, groups, organizations, and societies
