University of Richmond police department is one of five universities worldwide to receive public safety accreditation

The University of Richmond police department has received accreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

IACLEA announced the first five recipients of the organization's accreditation at its annual conference in Las Vegas. George Washington University, University of Missouri at Columbia, University of North Texas and San Francisco State University also received the distinction.

Accreditation criteria requires compliance with more than 200 standards of campus public safety.

The university's police department also is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. It was the first private university law enforcement agency to earn accreditation by CALEA in 1990.
