Wachovia's Benjamin P. Jenkins III to Discuss Changes in the Financial Industry in Speech at University of Richmond

September 6, 2002

Benjamin P. Jenkins III will speak on "The Many Faces of Change" in the financial industry Oct. 1 at the University of Richmond.

Jenkins' speech will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jepson Alumni Center. It is co-sponsored by the Richmond Quest and the Robins School of Business. It is also part of the Jepson Leadership Forum series on "Leadership for Our Changing World."

Jenkins is senior executive vice president and president of the General Bank of Wachovia Corp. He is guiding all the consumer and commercial banking operations of the company through the merger of Wachovia and First Union.

Jenkins is serving as the business school's executive-in-residence for the fall semester. The merger of Wachovia and First Union will provide a case study for the university's strategic management classes this year. Part-time MBA students during their two-week orientation last month did a case study for Wachovia on debit cards.

Jenkins joined First Union in 1971. He holds a B.S. in textile chemistry from North Carolina State University and an MBA from the University of Alabama.
