Walcott Poetry Reading, Public Discussion Postponed Until October 18

September 12, 2001

Nobel Prize-winning poet Derek Walcott's appearance at the University of Richmond, scheduled for Sept. 12-13, has been postponed until Oct. 18.

Walcott lives in New York and in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center cannot obtain transportation to Richmond.

Walcott was to have given a public reading from his works tonight 7:30 and participated in a public discussion at 2 p.m. tomorrow with noted Caribbean author and Richmond visiting professor Velma Pollard. The events were to have opened the Tucker-Boatwright Literary Festival, a series of public readings and discussions by noted American authors that will continue through February.

The location of the Oct. 18 reading is to be announced. For further information, contact the university's Department of English at 289-8288.
