Three receive 2005 Story Awards for service

Dywana Saunders, Sandie Walker, ’05, and Gail Zwirner are the 2005 recipients of Story Awards, presented annually by the Bonner Scholars Program and Office of the Chaplaincy.

They received the awards during a dinner ceremony March 16.

Since 1992, the freshman class of Bonner Scholars has coordinated an awards ceremony to recognize each year the service and leadership of University faculty and staff, and, beginning in 2002, a student.

Faculty, staff and students nominate people whose commitment to community building may have gone unrecognized. The freshman class of Bonner Scholars is responsible for soliciting nominations, selecting the award recipients and coordinating the ceremony. During the program, freshman Bonner Scholars share the “stories” of the winners and present them with pewter awards.

Saunders is a library associate in the media resource center of Boatwright Memorial Library. She was selected for her “dedicated work for the Richmond Area Mothers of Multiples” and her support and commitment to the organization and Richmond mothers.

Walker was selected for her initiative in creating and running Project Y.O.R.K., helping inner-city youth explore the world and learn to become involved in community service.

Zwirner, head of access services in the law school library, was selected for her pioneering work with the Virginia Association of Law Libraries, Boys and Girls Club, her Fan District community and the Richmond law library.
