Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness

Construction of the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness (artist's rendering above) is expected to be completed by December 2006 at a total cost estimated at $13 million. The project will add 26,400 square feet of new space and renovate an additional 32,500 square feet of existing space inside the Robins Center. New space will include a three-bay auxiliary gym with an elevated running track, while renovations will significantly upgrade and expand current fitness and recreational facilities.

Groundbreaking for the new center took place May 6 with members of the Weinstein family participating, and a cornerstone-laying ceremony will be held Sept. 29.

Marcus M. and Carole M. Weinstein, daughter Allison P. Weinstein and son-in-law Ivan Jecklin have pledged $5 million for the new center, to be built adjacent to the Robins Center.

"The continuing generosity of the Weinstein family will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of University of Richmond students for generations to come," said President Bill Cooper.
