President schedules office hours,
conversations with students
President Bill Cooper has scheduled several opportunities for students to meet with him individually or in groups. Three times during the academic year, Cooper will hold “Enhancing Richmond,” open microphone conversations with students. A continuation of last year’s “Hanging with Dr. Cooper,” the series will be held in residence halls.
Also, the president has set aside monthly office hours to meet with students. No appointments are necessary for the meetings, held from 3–5 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month, September through April. January’s office hours will be on the third Tuesday.
The first Enhancing Richmond was held in September. Future conversations will take place from 6:30–8 p.m. Nov. 10 in Whitehurst Living Room and Feb. 16 in North Court.

Campus community to discuss book on social justice

Students, faculty and staff will be on the same page as they participate in a year-long book discussion, titled “One Book, One Campus: Dialogues in Social Justice.”
Throughout the academic year, campus and community facilitators will lead discussions of Why
Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? by Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, president of Spelman College.
The program allows for “dialogue on issues of difference and the concept of privilege in our society as well as opportunities to brainstorm ways to integrate diversity issues into the curriculum,” said Camisha Jones of the Office of the Chaplaincy, one of the project’s sponsors.
Discussions of book excerpts are scheduled for Oct. 17–Nov. 18. Discussions of the entire book, led by faculty, staff, students and community participants, will take place from Jan. 23–March 31. For more information or to register, visit
