The William Jewell College Board of Trustees has elected David Burhans, Richmond's chaplain emeritus and special assistant to the Office of Advancement, to William Jewell's governing body.

Burhans served as the Jessie Ball DuPont Chaplain, senior administrative officer and member of the president's senior staff at the University of Richmond from 1974-2004. A 1961 graduate of William Jewell College, Burhans received his bachelor of divinity, master of theology and doctor of theology degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ken.

Burhans currently serves as chair of the board of directors for the National Conference for Community and Justice in the state of Virginia, chair of the Volunteer Emergency Families for Children and chair of the Charles B. Keesee Educational Foundation Board, which provides loans and grants to secondary school students, college students and graduate students in theology.

William Jewell is a four-year, liberal arts college located in Liberty, Mo.

Chancellor E. Bruce Heilman was honored last spring with Kentucky's 2004 Outstanding Forest Steward of the Year award. In September, Campbellsville University, his alma mater, named its new student center the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex for him.

Ann Hodges, professor of law, and Porcher Taylor, associate professor of paralegal studies, are co-authors of an article published last spring in the Columbia Science and Technology Law Review. Their article was titled "The Business Fallout from the Rapid Obsolescence and Planned Obsolescence of High-tech Products: Downsizing of Noncompetition Agreements." The journal is a publication of the Columbia University School of Law.

Taylor also was published in the September issue of Electronic Business, the business magazine for the electronics industry, with a readership of 65,000 senior executives. His commentary article was titled "Get Rid of the Handcuffs: It's Time to Downsize the Practice of Noncompete Agreements in Electronics."

Sabena Moretz, associate director of admission, was a delegate to the annual assembly of the National Association for College Admission Counseling in Tampa, Fla. She represented the regional association-Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling-as a college delegate and will serve a three-year term. The national assembly deals with practical and ethical issues in the admission profession.
