Board of Trustees approves budget, other items

The University's Board of Trustees has approved a 2006-07 budget of $168.7 million, an increase of 7.3 percent over the current year's budget.

"The new budget includes funding for six new faculty positions, the Common Ground initiative and additional need- and merit-based financial aid," said Herb Peterson, vice president for business and finance.

Trustees approved the budget at their March 3 meeting. They also approved funding of nearly $1.4 million to upgrade Dennis Hall. "Dennis will be rewired and have new air conditioning and sprinkler systems installed," said Peterson. "The renovation will include changes to make it consistent with the new Housing Redevelopment Plan."

On Jan. 12 the executive committee approved more than $6 million in continuing and $758,837 in one-time program improvement requests. Among items being funded are a Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the business school, additional merit scholarships, international financial aid and expansion of theme housing.
