Common Ground Corner

Subcommittees working on variety of issues
Common Ground Action Committee subcommittees continue to stay busy, working on issues from transportation and campus mobility to communicating their work to a broader audience.

The Accessibility subcommittee is evaluating transportation options for students without cars so they can be more involved in the city of Richmond, public transportation issues for employees, and accessibility of University buildings and grounds for people with mobility issues. The group is evaluating a range of alternative transportation options for students and, with Human Resource Services, looking at more convenient bus stops for public buses. Another emphasis of the group has been to ensure that sign-language interpreters are present at major campus events. To provide input to the subcommittee, contact the chair, Andy Gurka, at agurka@richmond.edu.

The Faculty Issues subcommittee has identified a number of best diversity practices on campus and is evaluating ways to model and promote them for the whole faculty. For more information on the group's work or to make suggestions, contact subcommittee chair, Elisabeth Wray, at ewray@richmond.edu.

The Communications and Engage-ment subcommittee wants to find more outlets for informing the campus community about the CGAC's work. The group is considering a broad range of options and venues to tell the Common Ground story, including publishing its own newsletter. To offer ideas to this sub-committee, contact the chair, Camisha Jones, at cjones2@richmond.edu.

Ideas or suggestions for any subcommittee or the CGAC in general can be sent to commonground@richmond.edu.

Upcoming events
Members of the campus community are invited to join CGAC for an informal lunch in the Heilman Center meeting room, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. and at the regular CGAC meeting April 7 at 3 p.m. in the Gottwald Conference Room.
