Dr. Paul Achter, assistant professor of rhetoric, was quoted on News24.com (South Africa) about Barack Obama’s rhetoric.

Dr. Tom Arnold, assistant professor of finance, was quoted in E Commerce Times about Al Gore’s media company, Current Media, filing for an initial public offering.

President Edward Ayers was quoted in The Washington Post about recruiting a faculty couple to the University of Virginia.

Doug Bosse, assistant professor of management, was mentioned in an article in CMD First Source about moderating a discussion for The Venture Forum.

Dr. Sheila Carapico, professor of political science, was quoted about returning detainees to Yemen in The Miami Herald, The San Diego Union-Tribune, and the Star Telegram. 

Dr. William Cooper, distinguished university professor and president emeritus, was quoted in the China Post about John Negroponte calling Taiwan’s UN resolution “provocative.”

Dr. Dean Croushore, associate professor of economics and Rigsby Fellow, was quoted in The Washington Post and Tennessean.com about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s more assertive approach to the crisis in the mortgage and credit markets. He was quoted on Wall Street Journal Online about Bernanke cutting an important interest rate by .75 percentage points. He was quoted about his analysis of the personal consumption expenditures price indexes in The Washington Times.

Dr. Uliana Gabara, dean of international education, was quoted in Inside Higher Ed about paying for study abroad.

Dr. Terryl Givens, professor of religion and literature, was quoted in the Deseret Morning News about Mormon president Gordon Hinckley’s death. His comments also appeared on Reuters, Yahoo News USA, ABC News, Yahoo Canada and in The Timaru Herald.

Dr. Woody Holton, associate professor of history, had his book, Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution, reviewed in the Chicago Tribune.

Dr. Crystal Hoyt, assistant professor of leadership studies, was quoted about Hillary Clinton in The Washington Times and Media Matters for America.

The announcement of Mike London as Richmond’s new football coach was carried by the New York Post, Sporting News, NBC San Diego and the Associated Press.

James Rettig, University librarian, was quoted in The Chronicle of Higher Education about a Congressional report.

Carl Tobias, professor of law, wrote an op-ed in Find Law about filling the seat of J. Michael Luttig on the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. His quote on the same topic was included in an article in The (Baltimore) Sun. He was quoted about the Bush administration trying to overturn a court order restricting the Navy’s use of a type of sonar linked to deaths of marine mammals in the Los Angeles Times, The San Diego Union Tribune and Signon San Diego. His comments on Roger Clemens being questioned at a Congressional hearing were carried by Greenwich Time. The Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times quoted him on the sentencing of Marion Jones. Signon San Diego quoted him about reconciling the clash between the environment and national security. The Associated Press quoted him about a case involving the circumcision of a 12-year-old boy. The New York Times and the International Herald Tribune used his quotes in articles about the FBI opening criminal inquiries into 14 companies as part of an investigation of the mortgage industry. The Wall Street Journal, SmartMoney and CNNMoney.com quoted Tobias about an appeal in the Echo Star v. TiVo case. Several news outlets quoted him about the Microsoft bid for Yahoo: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Newsweek, Santa Barbara News, Red Orbit, CNNMoney and CNET News.com. McClatchy-Tribune News Service, and Individual.com quoted him in articles about the tainted pet food scare. The Los Angeles Times and USA Today quoted him about evidence that Roger Clemens allegedly took steroids. The Philadelphia Inquirer used Tobias’ quotes in an article about an appeals court ruling against the Environmental Protection Agency. The (Baltimore) Sun quoted him about the Virginia primaries.
