Joshua Burstein, associate dean for career services in the law school, was quoted in an article about job prospects for new attorneys in The Wall Street Journal.

Chris Cotropia, associate professor of law, was quoted in an article about patent reform in Lawyers USA.

Dr. Joe Essid, director of the writing center, had his letter to the editor about Second Life published in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Dr. Terryl Givens, professor of religion and literature, was quoted in an article about the Mormon religion of presidential candidate Mitt Romney in The Chronicle of Higher Education and his comments on Mormonism appeared on Salon.com.

Dr. Doug Hicks, executive director of the Center for Civic Engagement, had his op-ed about religious talk in the presidential campaign published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and The Biloxi Sun Herald. His podcast about the role of America and religion in alleviating global poverty appeared on the Web site Insidevandy.

A book by Joe Ben Hoyle, associate professor of accounting, was the subject of an essay in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Dr. Jimmy Kandeh, associate professor of political science, gave an analysis of elections in Sierra Leone for Voice of America.

Porcher Taylor, associate professor of paralegal studies, and Beth Anne Simonds, captain and deputy police chief, had their article, “Clery Act Needs Whistleblower Protection,” published in the magazine Campus Safety.

Carl Tobias, professor of law, was quoted in The Washington Post about Virginia Tech families weighing wrongful death lawsuits following the shooting on campus last spring. He was quoted in the Christian Science Monitor and by Gannett News Service about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales leaving his position and about Michael Mukasey, President Bush’s nominee to replace him. Financial Times, Yahoo News and the Associated Press also quoted him about the Mukasey nomination. His op-ed on Mukasey appeared in The San Diego Union-Tribune. The Detroit News quoted him about a possible link between Geoffrey Fieger and Alberto Gonzales. His thoughts on the Supreme Court deciding to hear a lethal injection case, Michael Vick being indicted by a state grand jury and Missouri lawmakers regulations on abortion appeared in the Los Angeles Times. He was quoted in The New York Times about a brief filed by animal rights groups in the Michael Vick case. His comments on the Vick case also appeared in USA Today and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  He commented on the Melvyn Weiss case in the New York Sun. The National Law Journal, Congressional Quarterly Today and The Baltimore Sun quoted him in articles about the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Baltimore Sun and The Boston Globe included his quotes in articles about the Supreme Court’s decision to hear a lethal injection case. The Times-Picayune quoted him in articles about the case of Rep. William Jefferson. The New York Times quoted him in an article about the Isiah Thomas case and an article about 9/11 plaintiffs seeking trials rather than settling out of court. His comments on a Pennsylvania case against Wal-Mart and the new chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was quoted in articles about rights of terrorism suspects and Sen. Arlen Specter’s defense of Sen. Larry Craig in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Baltimore Sun used his quotes in an article about a Maryland court of appeals upholding the state’s marriage laws. Reuters quoted him in an article about the KPMG tax shelter case. Several media quoted him about the Duke lacrosse players’ civil law suit, including the Winston-Salem Journal, Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Tamps Tribune, SI.com, USA Today, MSNBC.com, CBSnews.com and Time.com. The (Baltimore) Sun, Chicago Tribune and Detroit Free Press quoted him about President Bush’s responses to questions about torture. Law.com and Yahoo Canada quoted Tobias about the E. Duncan Gretchell nomination to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Louisville Courier-Journal and USA Today quoted Tobias in articles about a Louisville-based priest abuse case. The Hill quoted him in an article about Rep. Tom Davis not entering the Virginia Senate race and also on Michael Mukasey’s nomination.

A $9 million gift to the University of Richmond by Carole Weinstein was reported in The Chronicle of Higher Education. A University forum event was mentioned in an article on Foxnews.com. The Chronicle of Higher Education mentioned the University in an article on accepting home-schooled students.
