Economics professor, leadership scholar named dean of Jepson School

Sandra J. Peart has been named as the new dean of the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, effective Aug. 1.

Peart is currently a professor of economics at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where she has also served as chair of the faculty. She is a distinguished scholar with special expertise in the history of economic thought and political economy, especially in the context of ethical leadership.

Peart is a regular presenter at the annual conference of the International Leadership Association and several years ago led the development of a leadership studies program at Baldwin-Wallace. In 2004–05, she was a visiting scholar at the Center for Public Choice at George Mason University, where she is director of the Summer Institute for the History of Economic Thought. Currently president-elect of the History of Economics Society, Peart has received numerous awards and research grants. In 2005–06, she was a Fellow of the American Council on Education.

“Dr. Peart’s strong record of scholarship, her outstanding record of teaching and her experience in leadership studies have uniquely prepared her to lead the Jepson School as it continues to soar,” said Richmond President Bill Cooper.

Peart earned her doctorate in economics at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the faculty at Baldwin-Wallace College, she was a member of the faculty at the College of William and Mary. She has authored or edited five books and published more than 50 professional papers and reviews.

“The school is widely known for its outstanding faculty, students and staff. I look forward to working with all of them and our colleagues at the University to further advance the goals of the Jepson School and the University of Richmond,” said Peart.
