Earl Hamner, R’44, creator of the acclaimed television series The Waltons and Falcon Crest, says his life was enriched by the many generous women who influenced him.
“Some of these ladies have been famous,” he wrote, “their names and faces known all over the world. Others are known only in their own communities. But their gifts have been many and varied, and each has enriched my life.”
Hamner’s latest book, Generous Women, is his thank-you to the women who shaped him into the man he became. His other books include Spencer’s Mountain, The Homecoming, You Can’t Get There from Here, Goodnight John-Boy and The Avocado Drive Zoo.
Hamner will be on campus March 27 for a book reading and signing, along with children’s author Cynthia Cotton, whose son is currently a junior at Richmond.
The event will be held in the Alice Haynes Room of Tyler Haynes Commons at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but seating will be limited. Call 289-8496 to reserve a seat.
Cotton has written several children’s books and has a new novel due out in April, Fair Has Nothing to Do with It. Her other books include This is the Stable, Snow Ponies, Abbie in Stitches and At the Edge of the Woods.
Both authors will have books available for purchase at the book signing.
