Mentoring inner-city students

The University officially kicked off three programs to help college-bound, inner-city, low income and minority students living in Richmond with a keynote address Sept. 29 by J.B. Schramm (second from r.), founder and chief executive of College Summit of Washington, D.C. As part of the new programs, Richmond students will mentor local high school seniors, and 1,200 freshmen will visit campus in March. Also, the admission office will sponsor a College Summit workshop July 2–8 to help students understand the admission and financial aid process. Pictured with Schramm are (from l.) Sabena Moretz, associate director of admission; Cindy Deffenbaugh, director of financial aid; and June Aprille, provost. The Center for Civic Engagement’s Build It also is an active partner.
