Presidential search continues with interviews

The search for University of Richmond’s next president—its ninth in 176 years—continued over the summer, with the search committee reviewing applications and conducting in-person interviews with top candidates.

The search committee expects to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees by the end of the calendar year.

The position “has attracted an exceptionally deep, accomplished and diverse group of interested candidates, including current and former college and university presidents, provosts, senior administrators and deans, as well as other distinguished individuals,” said Robert L. Burrus Jr., chair of the presidential search committee.

According to the job announcement, the committee is looking for a candidate who “will be an outstanding leader who can continue to enhance the University’s academic reputation, national visibility, high quality student life and strong relationships with the actively engaged University alumni base of nearly 42,000.”

Steven R. Portch, chancellor emeritus of the University System of Georgia, has served as senior advisor to the search committee, and A.T. Kearney Education Practice, a professional executive search firm, is working with the committee.
