Robert Battle, leading New York choreographer, teaching and creating at University of Richmond Sept. 23-28
September 24, 2007
Robert Battle, whose independent choreography for Parsons Dance Company from 1994-2001 and direction of his own Battleworks Dance Company made him New York's most sought-after choreographer, is conducting his third week-long visit with the University of Richmond's University Dancers Sept. 23-28.
Battle is choreographing a new work for the University Dancers to perform at their February dance concert on campus and at the American College Dance Festival Association district meeting in March. ACDFA district winners will go on to perform at The Kennedy Center in Washington next May.
The Hubbard Street Repertory Ensemble, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Introdans, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Ruth Rosenberg Dance Ensemble and PARADIGM have all commissioned new works and re-stagings of Battleworks repertory by the Julliard grad and Princess Grace Dance Scholarship and Martha Hill Prize winner. His recent work includes commissions from Ballet Memphis, Ballet Idaho, Koresh Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the American Dance Festival 2005 season.
