Richmond Offers Tuition-Free Fall Semester to College Students From Hurricane Disaster Area
September 1, 2005
The University of Richmond is accepting, tuition-free for the fall semester, a limited number of undergraduate and law students dislocated from colleges and universities in the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Richmond is enrolling around 20 undergraduate and several law students who meet the university’s normal admission requirements.
Students will enroll in up to four courses and will be eligible to return to their home institutions.
Richmond President William E. Cooper is working with higher education organizations to promote a similar policy at colleges and universities nationwide.
“This tragedy calls upon us to help both displaced students and their home institutions,” Cooper said. “Beyond these roles, we need to marshal sustained support in concert with countless individuals and organizations to advance this recovery.”
The specially admitted students will be encouraged to keep in contact with their home institutions for information about campus reopenings. Students who wish to remain at Richmond beyond the fall semester may apply for regular admission later this fall.
“We have strong academic support services to help dislocated students catch up with our fall semester academic work after a late start,” said Richmond Provost June Aprille.
For further information, impacted students and parents may contact Richmond’s Office of Admission toll-free at (800) 700-1662 or the School of Law Office of Admission at (804) 289-8189.
