U.S. Department of Education Under Secretary to be Leader in Residence at Jepson School of Leadership Studies

Eugene W. Hickok, U.S. under secretary of education and architect of the Leave No Child Behind educational policy, will serve as leader in residence on Sept. 29 at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.

Hickok, one of the top three-ranking officials in DOE, is principal adviser to Secretary Rod Paige. Prior to his confirmation by the U.S. Senate on July 10, 2001, he was Pennsylvania's secretary of education.

For 15 years, he taught political science at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and was an adjunct professor at the Dickinson School of Law.

He received a bachelor's degree from Hampden-Sydney and a master's degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of Virginia.
