University of Richmond Writers Series to continue with American poet and critic Kevin Young

Kevin Young, a finalist for the National Book Award, will read as part of the University of Richmond’s Writers Series, Oct. 27, 7 p.m., Weinstein Hall, Brown-Alley Room. The annual series is designed to expose students and the university community to living writers.
Young finds meaning and inspiration in African-American music and the history of Black America. He was a 1993 National Poetry Series winner for “Most Way Home.” His book, “Jelly Roll: A Blues,” was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Award. He is a professor of poetry at Emory University.
A conversation with novelist Colson Whitehead, the university’s writer-in-residence this semester, will follow Young’s reading.
