"On Bullshit" Author Harry Frankfurt to Speak Dec. 1 at University of Richmond

November 28, 2005

Harry Frankfurt, author of the New York Times list bestseller “On Bullshit” and professor of philosophy at Princeton University will speak Dec. 1 at the University of Richmond on “Truth, Lies and Other Forms of Corruption in Civic Communication.”

Frankfurt’s talk is part of the Jepson Leadership Forum 2005-06 and is scheduled for Jepson Alumni Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are free, but must be reserved by calling the Modlin Center box office at (804) 289-8900. Unclaimed tickets will be released to stand-bys 10 minutes before the start.

Since 1956, Frankfurt has explored how ideals and values shape human lives in some 50 articles, essays and reviews, as well as five highly praised books. But none of his writings has attracted more widespread attention than his most recent, “On Bullshit,” which topped the bestseller list for several months earlier this year. The book takes an incisive, careful look at how Americans live in an age of deceit, lies, spin, storytelling, cagey omissions--“outright bull.”

Jepson School professor Joanne B. Ciulla will introduce Frankfurt. For more information, visit the leadership forum Web site.
