Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship will fund University of Richmond professor's research in Turkey

Yucel Yanikdag, assistant professor of Middle Eastern history at the University of Richmond, has been awarded a grant through the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship program to conduct research in Turkey next year.
Yanikdag will focus on Ottoman and Turkish nationalism during the period between World War I and 1939 in Turkey, spending seven months abroad, mostly in Istanbul and Ankara.
Administered by the Department of Education, the Fulbright-Hays program awards research grants to colleges and universities to fund faculty travel abroad for three to 12 months.
Yanikdag earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Old Dominion University and his doctorate in Islamic history from Ohio State University. He joined Richmond's faculty in 2006.
