Villanueva named assistant VP-dean and Kabbaz named director at University of Richmond's Office of Admission

Gil J. Villanueva, dean of admission at Brandeis University, has been named assistant vice president and dean of admission at the University of Richmond.

He is joined by Michael S. Kabbaz, senior director of college and university services of the Advanced Placement Program at The College Board, who has been named director of admission.

Villanueva and Kabbaz will begin work at Richmond on July 15, succeeding retiring Dean Pamela W. Spence, who worked in Richmond's admission office the last 34 years.

Villanueva has worked his entire career in college admission, holding senior positions at Bucknell University and as senior associate dean and assistant dean at Harvey Mudd College. He has served on a number of national committees, including the College Board's Task Force on Admissions for the 21st Century. He earned his bachelor's degree from Pitzer College and master's from Bucknell.

Kabbaz has been at the College Board since 2003, serving in a number of capacities including chief educational manager of the Midwestern regional office. He previously worked in admission at Miami (Ohio) and Xavier universities. He is a doctoral candidate in higher education at Loyola University, Chicago. He earned his M.B.A. and B.S. degrees from Xavier.
