University of Richmond to participate in CICV's Virginia Private College Week July 27-Aug. 1

July 20, 2009

Affordability of attending a private college will be the theme when University of Richmond joins 24 other independent colleges participating in Virginia Private College Week July 27-Aug. 1.

At twice-daily information sessions, representatives will emphasize that private colleges are not beyond the financial reach of most families. Students who visit at least three participating Virginia private colleges during the week will be allowed to apply for admission to any three of the colleges at no charge.

During the annual promotion, sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia, each college will host two daily programs for rising high school juniors, seniors, their families and prospective transfer students. The programs will include a campus tour and information session about admission, financial aid, academic programs and extracurricular activities.

Richmond will host programs Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. at the Office of Undergraduate Admission in Brunet Hall. Although Richmond will not offer programs on Saturday, visitors can pick up brochures and maps at the kiosk outside the admission office. Online registration is recommended at admissions@richmond.edu or call 800-700-1662.

"Virginia Private College Week is an opportunity to learn more about the quality and affordability of independent colleges," said Nanci Tessier, vice president for enrollment management at Richmond. "For instance, Richmond is one of the few colleges in the nation to offer need-blind admission and a guarantee to meet 100 percent of an undergraduate student's demonstrated financial need."  Last year, Richmond awarded nearly $49 million in financial aid to undergraduates, and the incoming first-year class is the most diverse in the university's history, she said.
