BusinessWeek magazine, in a fresh interpretation of its annual rankings, calls the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond tops among "the Best Undergraduate Business Programs by Specialty."
"Robins is not only tops in [marketing, financial management and macroeconomics], but also in corporate strategy and quantitative methods, making it the most celebrated program" among the highest-ranked business schools in the country.
"With Richmond's strong performance in the classroom, it's no surprise that the school moved up the overall ranking eight spots to No. 12," the magazine explained.
BusinessWeek asked senior business majors to grade their programs in 12 academic areas including marketing, accounting, calculus, financial management and corporate strategy. Based on those grades, BusinessWeek calculated scores for each of the 101 ranked schools in each academic area.
"[Richmond] business students say they get a small program focused on hands-on, real-world experiences, with engaging, accessible professors and a strong alumni base. Students laud the fact that up-to-the-minute news is incorporated into core business courses, with current market trends and announcements from the Federal Reserve directing daily discussions."
Jorge Haddock, Robins School dean, credited high-quality faculty and students, strong corporate support and alumni backing for driving Richmond's rise in the rankings.
"The generosity of alumni and friends enables us to provide students with a small-class environment that is conducive to high-quality education," Haddock said.
