University of Richmond to host American Cancer Society Relay For Life Nov. 1
October 29, 2008
University of Richmond will host its first on-campus Relay For Life, a fundraiser benefitting the American Cancer Society, Nov. 1.
Relay For Lifeencourages members of the local community to raise money to support the fight against cancer by participating in a walk.
The event has three components: honoring survivors through lap in their honor around the university's Westhampton Lake; remembering lost loved ones through a luminaria ceremony; and fighting cancer by raising awareness and funds for research.
The opening ceremony takes place in the law school atrium at 11 a.m., followed by a procession to the lake, where the walk will take place.
As participants walk around the lake, the organizers will provide awareness activities, contests and entertainment.
At 8:30 p.m. a Luminaria of Hope ceremony will be held. To honor loved ones lost to cancer, the path around the lake will be lined with lights.
