University of Richmond students to compete in IBM-sponsored international computer programming competition
October 15, 2008
University of Richmond students will compete in the IBM-sponsored Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest.
The team, made up of nine students and Professor Lewis Barnett will enter the regional round on Oct. 25 at Christopher Newport University.
They will compete by solving real-world, complex programming problems under a five-hour deadline.
"Tackling these problems is equivalent to completing a semester's worth of computer programming in one afternoon," said Amanda Carl of the ICPC.
The regional round features contests across the world, incorporating universities from 83 countries and six continents. If students answer enough questions correctly, they advance to the finals held in Stockholm, Sweden.
