University of Richmond Alumni Faculty and Staff Challenged to Contribute to Annual Fund

October 5, 2006

University of Richmond alumni who are members of the faculty or staff have double the reason to contribute to the 2006–07Annual Fund.

A member of the university’s board of trustees, who wishes to remain anonymous, will match dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 all unrestricted contributions to the university from alumni faculty and staff made before June 30.  Dave Johnson, vice president for advancement, first announced the challenge at the UR in the Know information sessions Sept. 13 attended by most staff and many faculty members.

A second challenge to faculty and staff alumni comes from the senior class gift committee, which seeks a 70 percent participation rate in this year’s senior class gift drive. The seniors have challenged alumni on the faculty and staff to beat their goal. Progress will be monitored on large “thermometers” on display in Tyler Haynes Commons.  In order to count, all gifts and pledges must be paid by June 30, the close of the university’s fiscal year.

The senior class already has secured more than 70 gifts, totaling $9,200 in gifts and pledges and representing almost 10 percent participation. The current average gift from participating seniors is $129.

The university’s 358 alumni faculty and staff will soon receive more information about these challenges.
