Law School Dean to Speak on Indian Law and Culture at Virginia Symposium Oct. 5 in Williamsburg

Rodney Smolla, dean of University of Richmond’s School of Law, will discuss laws dealing with Virginia native Americans in a panel discussion at the Virginia Indian Symposium Oct. 5 in Williamsburg.
The first laws concerning American Indian tribes originated in Virginia, and Smolla’s panel will explore the legal history and related government policies
Part of the Jamestown 2007 celebration, the symposium honors the cultures of Virginia’s Indian tribes and will discuss laws and policies that have affected native Americans here and nationwide.
The panel discussion is free and open to the public in the Williamsburg Lodge conference center, beginning at 9:15 a.m.
