University of Richmond Students to Hold "Trick or Treat Street" Halloween Carnival Oct. 30

October 8, 2004

The University of Richmond's 6th annual Trick or Treat Street will take place from
11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 30.

A Halloween carnival for area children organized by the university's sororities and fraternities, Trick or Treat Street will be held on Fraternity Row across from the Robins Center on College Rd. Admission is $5 for children, free for adults. All proceeds will go to Metro Richmond Habitat for Humanity. In the past, the event has drawn more than 1,400 children.

"We try to attract kids of all ages," said Stephanie Spear, a student organizer, "especially those between 4- and 11-years-old who are interested in Halloween but are looking for an alternative to typical activities."

This year's attractions will include pony rides, pumpkin painting, magicians and clowns, a visit from the university's mascot, Spidey, a backyard hay maze and two haunted houses.

"We are trying to make everything less scary this year," Spear said. "We are following last year's model, but adding more enthusiasm and creativity. Community support for this event gets better every year, and we are able to do more for the kids and for Habitat for Humanity."

The funds raised will go toward the university's second blitz-build project-building a home in a week-which costs $60,000 to sponsor and is scheduled for April 2005.
