Popular Television's Jewish Images are Subject of Talk at University of Richmond
October 29, 2001
Rabbi Jonathan Pearl will discuss "Popular Television's Jewish Images and Jewish-Christian Relations" Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. at the University of Richmond.
His talk, the 15th annual Weinstein-Rosenthal Lecture, will take place at the Modlin Center for the Arts. The event is free and is open to the public.
Pearl and his wife, Judith, founded and direct the Jewish Televimages Resource Center in Floral Park, N.Y., and wrote a book, "The Chosen Image: Popular Television's Portrayal of Jewish Themes and Characters." The center identifies, tracks, catalogues and evaluates Jewish images on television. It also bestows the annual Jewish Televimage Awards, which honor the creators of television's top Jewish themes and characters.
Pearl will use clips from popular television programs to illustrate
the lecture, sponsored by the Weinstein-Rosenthal Chair of Jewish
and Christian Studies at the university.
