University of Richmond Chaplaincy to hold Blue Christmas Service Dec. 4

November 30, 2007

The University of Richmond Chaplaincy will hold a Blue Christmas service in Cannon Memorial Chapel on Dec. 4 at noon.

Blue Christmas is a nondenominational service addressing the holiday season which brings some people sadness and depression instead of joy and festivity. The university's acting chaplain, Kate O' Dwyer Randall, an experienced grief counselor, will deliver the message that experiencing sorrow during the holiday season is acceptable and normal.

Around 60 people attended last year's inaugural Blue Christmas service, including community members, university faculty, staff and students. The service is being held earlier this year to allow students to attend before they leave campus for winter break.
