Pros and cons of women leaders discussed at University of Richmond Jepson/WILL Forum Dec. 4

November 7, 2007

Alice Eagly, a researcher and author on psychology and gender, will discuss "Through the Labyrinth: The Advantages and Disadvantages of Women as Leaders" Dec. 4, 7 p.m., at the University of Richmond.

Eagly is a professor of psychology and James Padilla Chair of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University. She researches the differences between men's and women's leadership styles, most recently comparing the differences between men and women's attitudes toward social and political issues, as well as factors influencing those differences.

"Through the Labyrinth: The Truth About How Women Become Leaders," Eagly's most recent book co-authored with Wellesley College psychology professor Linda L. Carli, was published this month. It explores issues facing women in leadership roles, including resistance to women as leaders and the stereotypes, prejudices and obstacles they face.

The event is the fifth of this year's jointly sponsored Jepson Leadership Forum/Women Involved in Living and Learning speaker series on Rhetoric & Reality: Race & Gender/Power & Politics.
