The Modlin Center Presents The Pat Metheny Group at the Landmark Theater

November 29, 2004

The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present The Pat Metheny Group live in concert at the Landmark Theater on March 22, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. "After last season's sold-out Pat Metheny Trio performances, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring Pat back to Richmond with his big band, the Pat Metheny Group," says Kathy Panoff, executive director of the Modlin Center for the Arts.

Hailed by the Richmond Times-Dispatch as "produc[ing] sheer magic as they pushed and pulled the genre of jazz in all directions," the group is now promoting their new album, The Way Up.

Founded by Metheny in 1977, the Pat Metheny Group has traveled continuously around the world playing and selling out concerts, festivals and clubs in more than 40 countries, becoming one of the most active and popular touring acts of any kind anywhere. They have won seven consecutive Grammy Awards for seven consecutive albums through their blend of jazz, swing and blues with electronic music styles.

Pat Metheny began playing the trumpet at the age of eight and the guitar at age 12. By age 15 he was performing in public. At the age of 18, Metheny was the youngest professor ever at the University of Miami. When he was 19, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music, where he received an honorary doctorate more than 20 years later.
