University of Richmond Graduate is Runner-Up in National Scholar's Prize Competition

Erin Bartels, a 2004 graduate of the University of Richmond, was named a runner-up in the 2004 Norton Scholar’s Prize, sponsored by W.W. Norton & Co. The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding undergraduate essay on a literary topic.
A winner and four runners-up were named from 200 entries received from throughout the nation. Essays are nominated by faculty members at the students’ colleges or universities. Bartels’ essay was titled “The Benefits of Bad Translation” and was nominated by John Marx, assistant professor of English.
Bartels, who hails from Peachtree City, Ga., graduated summa cum laude from Richmond and received departmental honors in English. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
