November 15, 2002
The University of Richmond has hired Shirley Woods as director of the Robins School of Business's personal development program. The program, a requirement of all business majors, includes the completion of a Web-based portfolio.
Woods comes to the university from Fresno Pacific University in California, where she was most recently dean of the student life division. Previously, she was director of career and student services and director of summer studies at the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Woods holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Florida A&M University and a master of education degree in guidance and counseling from Tennessee State University.
The student portfolio is a collection of student goals, action plans, reflections and work samples accumulated by students during their time at the business school. The portfolio, along with events, speakers and four required courses in personal development, comprise the personal development program.
