Shakespeare on Film Will Kick Off Lecture Series by Author of "Modern Hamlets" at University of Richmond

Mary Z. Maher, author of "Modern Hamlets and Their Soliloquies," will give three lectures at the University of Richmond on how modern actors portray Shakespeare's characters.
"Shakespeare on Film" will kick off the series Nov. 11, followed by "Modern Hamlets" Nov. 17 and "Shakespeare's Women" Dec. 3. All the speeches, which are free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Modlin Center for the Arts.
Maher interviewed actors who have played Hamlet for her book, including Derek Jacobi, David Warner, Kevin Kline and Ben Kingsley. She also looks at the performances of such actors as Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud and Richard Burton.
The lectures are sponsored by the Richmond Quest and the theatre and dance department.
