Singer and Actress Lorna Luft Will Play Ma Rose in University of Richmond Players' Production of "Gypsy"

Singer and actress Lorna Luft will play Ma Rose in the University of Richmond Players' production of "Gypsy" Nov. 21-24.

Luft will play the indefatigable stage mother in the musical based on the memoirs of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. Dorothy Holland will direct. Book is by Arthur Laurents, score by Jules Styne. "Let Me Entertain You" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses" are just two of the play's numerous musical hits.

Luft recently toured the country in the highly acclaimed multimedia production of "Songs My Mother Taught Me-A Celebration of the Music of Judy Garland."

Two equity artists in residence, Michael Goodwin and Jim Hillgartner, will also be in the production, Goodwin as Uncle Herbie, the devoted agent, and Hillgartner as Uncle Jocko.

Luft starred in the movies "Grease 2" and "Where the Boys Are '84," and she has played numerous roles on TV shows.

She has released numerous single records, including a duet with her mother on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which utilized the same technology that produced Natalie and Nat "King" Cole's "Unforgettable."

Luft was also a best-selling author with her 1998 autobiography "Me and My Shadows: Living with the Legacy of Judy Garland."
