Two University of Richmond Students Win Fulbright Grants for Study and Research Abroad in 2006-07

Nina Bhattacharyya of El Paso, Texas, and Anne Johnson of Mattapoisett, Mass., who both graduated from University of Richmond on May 14, have received grants for study abroad in the 2006-07 U.S. Student Fulbright Competition.

Johnson, a political science-Spanish double major and English minor, won a teaching assistantship in Madrid, Spain.

Bhattacharyya, a biology-mathematics double major, won in biology research grant for her proposed project, “Investigation and Analysis of Conservation in Trinidad.” She will spend a year in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago.

Both will depart the United States in September.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright program is an international exchange program for students, scholars and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. It was established by Congress in 1946 to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
