Great Game of Business Workshop to be Held at University of Richmond May 23

May 11, 2005

Bill Fotch, head coach of the Great Game of Business, will conduct a workshop at the University of Richmond’s Jepson Alumni Center, 1:30-5 p.m., May 23. A reception will follow.

Business Week in 2002 called the Great Game of Business one of the top “25 Ideas for a Changing World.” GGOB is the professional services arm of SRC Holdings Inc. Its philosophy holds that companies should share information, control and equity with employees.

The system uses open-book management techniques that teach employees such skills as reading profit-and-loss statements. Employees also participate in financial decisions and are rewarded with shares of profits.

Jack Stack, SRC’s founder and CEO, used these principles to transform SRC from a struggling division of International Harvester into a highly profitable family of 22 operating companies. Over the years, GGOB has helped hundreds of companies, including Capital One, Southwest Airlines, Harley-Davison and Roadway.

Fotsch has worked with more than 100 companies, from small and mid-sized firms to Fortune 500 companies, including Kinko’s, British Petroleum and the Zambian Consolidated Copper Mines in Zambia, Africa.

He also has had line management responsibilities at Briggs & Stratton, JI Case and Litton Industrial Equipment. He has an engineering degree from Marquette University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

The workshop is sponsored by the Robins School of Business and the Greater Richmond Area Partnership for the Exchange of Value, Innovation, Networking and Education (GRAPEVINE). The workshop is $25 per person. Call (804) 289-8900 to register.
