University of Richmond to Hold Open House for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

May 3, 2004

The University of Richmond will hold an open house May 16 from 2-4 p.m. to formally launch its new Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for mature adults.

The open house will be held in the Special Programs Building, room 217. Dr. Daniel Roberts, assistant professor in the School of Continuing Studies and host of NPR's "A Moment in Time," will be the speaker.

Funded by a $100,000 grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation, the institute will offer three terms of classes per year for adults over 50.

"It is our intent that courses be intellectually challenging and engaging experiences, shorter than regular course offerings in length, but not in seriousness," said James Narduzzi, continuing studies dean. Courses will be "ungraded considerations of subjects worth the attention of well-informed, thoughtful adults." Instructors will be retired university faculty.
