University of Richmond Biology Professor Named Congressional Science Fellow
May 20, 2003
University of Richmond biology professor Peter D. Smallwood has been named an AAAS Congressional Fellow, one of only two in the nation.
Sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the program takes scientists out of the scientific world and puts them in the legislative arena for an academic year.
After orientation this summer, Smallwood will serve on the staff of a member of the House or the Senate. AAAS will pay his salary for his year away from the university.
Smallwood would like to work for legislation that would reform the U.S. Forest Service timber sales program, which he believes is too costly and damaging to the environment.
