Police safety carnival at University of Richmond April 11 to benefit Virginia Special Olympics
March 30, 2009
The chance to sink a cop in a dunk tank is not one that comes along often, but April 11 will offer the opportunity—and for a good cause. The University of Richmond police department and student activities office are sponsoring a carnival to benefit Virginia Special Olympics. They will be joined by police from Henrico, Hanover and Richmond city.
The event will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on the university's Westhampton Green and is free and open to the public.
Officers will showcase a rescue squad, fire truck and safety equipment. The U.S. Army will bring a rock-climbing wall.
Attractions for students, alumni and members of the community will include live music, game booths, face painting and a police dunk tank. Games and carnival-inspired food, such as cotton candy, hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones, will cost $1.
Athletes from Richmond's football and basketball teams will run the booths, and a signed national championship football, tickets and other prizes will be raffled. Commemorative T-shirts will be sold.
