University of Richmond will present program on teaching kids to care about the environment

March 20, 2007

In a society increasingly tuned into technology, children can become removed from the natural world. Four area teachers will discuss how they inspire children to care about the environment April 5 at University of Richmond.

The program, "The Next Generation: How Two Richmond Schools Teach Kids to Care about the Environment," will be held at 4 p.m. in the Brown-Alley Room of Weinstein Hall. It is open to the public at no charge. Sponsors are Women Involved in Living and Learning, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Richmond Quest.

Carroll Ellis, earth science teacher and trainer in Richmond public schools, and Richmond Montessori School teachers Robin Righetti, Lynne Sullivan and Michele Foijeck will discuss how they help children see their connections to the environment, care for the environment and develop skills to study, investigate and make a difference in the world in which they live.
