Historic campus architecture project lists University of Richmond buildings
March 19, 2007
Two University of Richmond buildings, Ryland Hall and North Court, plus the original campus plans have been included in an online database of historic buildings on independent college and university campuses.
The Council of Independent Colleges' Historic Campus Architecture Project lists information about significant buildings, landscapes, campus plans and heritage sites of American colleges and universities. The Web site database includes nearly 2,000 places of historical significance on American private campuses.
Architect Ralph Adams Cram's original plans for the Richmond campus are outlined on the Web site. The database praises the designs, calling them "an extraordinary expression of Cram's vision of an inspirational setting for education."
Other details are provided about Ryland and North, explaining their style, history and uses.
