Sixth annual Women in the Know conference to take place at University of Richmond April 12

March 26, 2007

University of Richmond will host the sixth annual Women in the Know conference April 12 from 1-6 p.m., featuring guest speakers and courses that will explore issues facing women.

Keynote speaker Molly Haskell will discuss American society's continuing struggle to grant women power. An author and critic, she has worked as a staff writer for The Village Voice, New York Magazine and Vogue and has taught film at Barnard College and Columbia University.

Richmond professors and alumni will teach five mini-courses, including an examination of why women stray from science careers; the history of American women serving abroad; an exploration of trends, patterns and forms of women's criminal victimization; a look at how women can create positive social change through philanthropy; and a discussion about the media and its counterpart: news parody.

The conference is open to the public but registration is required. For more information, call (804) 289-8578.

The conference is sponsored by Westhampton College, Women Involved in Living and Learning (WILL) and the Women's Studies program.
