The Modlin Center presents Dianne Reeves, jazz vocals
March 15, 2007
Join the Modlin Center in welcoming three-time Grammy winner, and Modlin Center jazz favorite, Dianne Reeves on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 pm in Camp Concert Hall.
Dianne Reeves is one of the pre-eminent jazz vocalists in the world today. She was awarded the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for each of her last three recordings—a Grammy first in any vocal category. As a result of her unique R&B and jazz stylings, Reeves has since captured a huge following and tremendous critical acclaim throughout the world. Reeves recently appeared and performed in George Clooney's Academy-Award nominated film Good Night, and Good Luck. The soundtrack recording provided Reeves her fourth Best Jazz Vocal Grammy in 2006.
The New York Times hails her performance in Good Night, and Good Luck, as "The powerful but mellow alto of Ms. Reeves wafts through the film, as ubiquitous and atmospheric as the smoke from Murrow's cigarettes." The Los Angeles Times says, "Reeves' superbly focused sound and articulate phrasing shine." The San Francisco Chronicle says, "Reeves is, in every sense, a jazz musician. Her voice—among the most fabulous around—is her instrument, and she improvises both in lyric and melodic delivery on every selection. Combining an amazing range and rich, full contralto with what old hipsters called 'good ears,' Reeves is capable of presenting as exciting and imaginative a jazz performance as any other great instrumentalist."
Tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the public on March 28 but the concert may be sold out due to heavy subscriber and campus demand. For availability, visit or call the Modlin Center Box Office at (804) 289-8980 or check online at modlin.richmond.edu.
