University of Richmond Debate Team Qualifies for National Debate Tournament

March 23, 2004

The University of Richmond debate team will participate in the National Debate Tournament April 2-5 in Washington, D.C., at Catholic University.

Richmond qualified along with Pittsburgh, Georgetown, George Mason, Liberty and Mary Washington College in the Mid-Atlantic tournament in February. That tournament featured top varsity teams from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Sophomores Casey Seidel, from Salem, N.H., and Lauren Gentry, from Houston, will represent Richmond at the NDT. They specialize in arguments about identity, culture, Turkish politics, genocide and conflict prevention assistance.

This is the second year in a row Richmond has qualified for the national tournament. The competition will be held at Catholic and at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.
