University Players and Dancers to Present "The Tempest"

March 30, 2004

Dorothy Holland will play Prospero in the University Players and Dancers' production of Shakespeare's late comedy "The Tempest" April 15-18 at the University of Richmond.

Holland, an assistant professor of theatre, will be joined by Equity artists-in-residence David Bridgewater as Caliban and Ray Taalib-Deen as Gonzalo and a largely student cast in the production directed by Walter Schoen.

Prospero, who may represent Shakespeare himself, is the magician ruler of an enchanted island where reality and fantasy merge after the passengers of a wrecked ship take up residence.

Anne Van Gelder is the choreographer, and Benjamin Broening wrote the original music. Scenery is by W. Reed West, lighting by William H. Lockey Jr, costumes by Nancy Allen and hair and makeup by Leslie Pope.

Tickets are $9. Student and senior tickets are $8, and University of Richmond student tickets are $4.
